Florida Gamefish
The Gulf of Mexico has a great diversity of fish species, and T-Kat Charters is right in the middle of the action. Snapper
One of the most common fish found in Florida’s Gulf Coast, snapper are a delicious eating fish, and offer great action for anglers of all skill level. We target mangrove snapper, red snapper and lane snapper. Depending on species of snapper, they can range in size from less than a pound to upwards of 15 pounds. Snapper will take live bait or cut bait, and are a really fun fish to target. Snapper fishing in Treasure Island promises lots of great action- and usually ends with a terrific dinner!
Grouper
Grouper are some of the most popular fish to target in the Gulf of Mexico. Grouper are attracted to rocky outcroppings inshore, near shore and offshore. Gag grouper, red grouper, scamps and the occasional black grouper are common catches in the Treasure Island area. Grouper will take almost any bait, live or cut, and offer great rod-bending action any time of year. A very popular fish for your dinner table!
Kingfish (King Mackerel)
Every spring and fall, the Kingfish migrate through the Treasure Island area, and the action is tremendous. Kingfish are often called smokers, because when you hook one, the Kingfish pulls the line off the spool so quickly, you can see smoke! Kingfish generally are a schooling fish and are often found within a few miles of shore. They are fast, strong and aggressive- really thrilling light tackle fishing! Tarpon
Big, streamlined and flashing silver, tarpon are simply great fishing targets. Tarpon offshore in the central Gulf Coast average 75 lbs. to 125 lbs., although a 200 lb. tarpon is an occasional catch. Tarpon are known as great fighters, and battling a giant tarpon on light tackle is a thrill no angler will soon forget! Tarpon are known for their impressive leaping when they realize they are hooked. In May, June and July, the tarpon follow their annual migration through the Central Gulf Coast and the tarpon fishing action is at its best.
Cobia
Cobia is not a schooling fish, which can make them a more difficult fish species to target. But when you do manage to find them, they offer great fishing action-and are a prized food fish. They average in size between 20 and 60 lbs. and are an aggressive and exciting fish to catch. Barracuda
Barracuda are a really fun fish to target. During the summer they inhabit the wrecks and reefs of the Treasure Island area. Catches range from 5 lbs. to 40 lbs, and barracuda under 15 lbs are great to eat!
